Usage rules
I. Rules for using precious instruments and equipment
1. Anyone intending to use the precious instruments of the Particle Physics and Irradiation Core Laboratory must apply according to the established regulations.
2. Guidelines for Project Completion and Publication of Results:
- To monitor the progress of each research project, this laboratory will send out a "Support Service Performance Form" every August. The principal investigator must accurately complete and return the form.
- According to hospital regulations, when using the hospital's precious instruments and equipment for publishing papers, it is required to acknowledge the funding support (including project number) and the laboratory name. When publishing research results, please include the name of the core laboratory in the "Acknowledgements" section: “Radiation Research Core Laboratory, Institute for Radiological Research, Chang Gung University/Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou, Taoyuan, Taiwan” and send one reprint to the core laboratory for record-keeping.
3. Reservation and Usage Precautions:
- Before applying for usage, please consult the respective instrument research personnel. Once approved, please contact the instrument managers listed below to make a reservation.

- The following are the instructions and regulations for reserving and using instruments:
- Instrument Scheduling Rules: To maintain the normal operation of the core laboratory and protect the rights of all users, users must properly plan their experimental procedures and strictly adhere to the laboratory's scheduling and reservation system. If you have any questions, please consult the instrument managers.
4. Fee Regulations for Instrument Use:
- Fees for instrument use are calculated based on “reserved time”; any usage exceeding the reserved time will also be charged.
- On the 1st of each month, the usage hours for the previous month will be calculated, and a “Research Fee Statement” will be sent to the users. Within one week of receiving it, please complete the form, affix the project stamp, and return it to the core laboratory (Contact: Mr. Chun-Wei Cheng, Ext. 7140) to facilitate administrative processes such as billing and accounting.
II. Application for High-energy proton irradiation for research
Proton irradiation submission process
1. Applicants for high-energy proton beam irradiation for research must complete the "High-Energy Proton Beam Irradiation Application Form" and attach the relevant documents (e.g., if the project involves animal experiments, the IACUC approval number must be included).
2. Email the above documents to the administrator's mailbox at afsgf654@cgmh.org.tw. Upon receipt, the application will be assigned to the appropriate core laboratory based on the research category.
3. **Feasibility Assessment:** A joint discussion on the feasibility of the experimental framework and design will be conducted by relevant personnel from the core laboratory, medical physicists from the Proton and Radiation Therapy Center, and the applicant. If the feasibility assessment is not passed, the application will be returned for revision and reapplication.
4. Applications that pass the feasibility assessment will be submitted to the High-Energy Proton Beam Experiment Project Review Committee for further review.
5. If there are doubts about the feasibility of the research during the evaluation process, a user briefing meeting will be convened by the "High-Energy Proton Beam Experiment Project Review Committee." The applicant will present and explain the necessity of their experimental framework, after which the committee will decide whether to approve the experiment.
6. Upon approval, the applicant will complete the Proton Irradiation Scheduling Form. After submission, the core laboratory research assistant and the Proton and Radiation Therapy Center will coordinate the date and time for the irradiation.
