History and introduction
Chang Gung Memorial Hospital was established in 1978 , and Dr .Ou Chi was the pioneer of division of pediatric gastroenterology. With the efforts and contribution of Dr .Man-Shan ,Kong , division of pediatric gastroenterology keeps growing . After Chang Gung Children’s Hospital was established in 1993 , we were devoted to staff and specialist training. There were nine attending physicians in northern branches of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital currently . Our service couers the region from North of Hsinchu County to Northern Taiwan. We provide broad service including the outpatient service, hospitalization, the emergency medical treatment, gastrointestinal consultation , and expert examination( such as abdominal ultrasonography , endoscope ).

Service
Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology is a major part in pediatrics domain, comprises a　mainly because children’s gastrointestinal symptoms and diseases is a substantial number. Among patients who visit emergency department or the outpatient department , 40% of patients has abdominal symptoms. And children who are hospitalized, approximately 20~30% of them were admitted due to gastrointestinal or hepatobiliary diseases. The common gastrointestinal diseases include acute abdominal pain, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, intussusception, appendicitis, and peptic ulcer disease . And the common hepatobiliary disease include cnolestasis, hepatitis, biliary atresia, and choledochal cyst. Mild diseases may need the medication treatment , and severe diseases may need aggressive treatment , including surgical intervention . Life-threatening cases need evaluation and treatment of pediatric gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary specialist.
