Latest development of our sectionI. Customize laser refractive surgery：Our section has introduced brand new femtosecond (blade-less) laser, as well as wavefront and iris registration system coupled with excimer laser, which will provide safe, precise, and customized laser corneal refractive correction.II. Corneal epithelial stem cell therapy: Utilizing cultivated corneal epithelium or autologous oral mucosal epithelial cells to treat ocular surface disease, we currently possess successful report on clinical trials regarding the two treatment modalities.III. Corneal endothelial transplantation: Our section has developed "Descemet's Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK)" targeting on corneal endothelial pathology. Meanwhile, we are also engaged in ex vivo cultivation of corneal endothelial cells, with an ambition on a future transplantation model using cultivated corneal endothelial cells.IV. Corneal tissue engineering research: Apart from amniotic membrane, our section is also performing research on biomimetic materials, which could either serve as carriers cultivating corneal cells, or as substrates of artificial corneas.
