Department Introduction

With the progress in medical care, mean lifetime's extension, more and more critically ill patients need the mechanical ventilatory support. Because of the worsening air pollution in Taiwan area, the airway diseases of children and adult including asthma, acute or chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema also increases. The specialty of respiratory therapy has gained more and more attention.

The specialty of respiratory therapy includes the following items: oxygen therapy, aerosol inhalation, chest physical therapy, blood gas analysis, and mechanical ventilation support and weaning in intensive care unit. The respiratory therapy division of Chang Gung Memorial hospital has been established for 36 years until now, and our service has been expanded to various units including all the medical, surgical, pediatric and newborn intensive care units, burn center, emergency department and ordinary wards. In the future, with continuous and unrelenting studying and learning, we will step forward to a more extensive specialty to serve more and more critically ill patients.
