Department Introduction
Looking back, Dr. Guan Yuzong, the first head, led everyone through the challenging thirteen years of entrepreneurship. In July 1989, Dr. Zeng Xinglong took over the dermatology department during a period of high growth in health insurance. The department actively promoted clinical services and achieved remarkable results over twelve years. In December 2001, Dr. Hong Hongxiang became the director. Currently, the department is entering a new era. Amid economic downturns and structural changes in the insurance system, adapting to the environment and maintaining the correct development direction is the most important issue the department faces.
In July 2007, Dr. Yang Zhixun took over as director. Dr. Yang highly respects the expertise of each attending physician, allowing them the freedom to develop their specialties, collaborate, and complement each other. Besides strengthening clinical knowledge, the department is also actively promoting basic research, encouraging physicians to enhance their paper writing. This not only aligns with the spirit of a medical center but also aims to contribute to medical advancements in the future. Additionally, responding to the needs of the times, Dr. Yang actively promoted the development of preventive dermatology, transforming traditional dermatology into a new field that integrates health and beauty.
In 2015, Dr. Zhong Wenhong took over as director, expanding the department’s professional diversity, strengthening basic and clinical research in dermatology, and developing studies in dermatological immunology, genetics, and adverse drug reactions. He also enhanced international exchanges, aiming to elevate the department to an international standard.
Since July 2020, to promote diverse development in dermatology, the department was officially upgraded to the Dermatology Division of the Northern Campus, with Dr. Zhong Wenhong as the first head. The current head is Dr. Zhang Yajing. The subspecialties include General Dermatology (headed by Dr. Zhang Yajing, with Dr. Shi Yixin as deputy head), Dermatological Immunology (headed by Dr. Zhong Wenhong, with Dr. Lin Jingyi as deputy head), Dermatological Surgery (headed by Dr. Chen Jianxun, with Dr. Huang Yuhui as deputy head), Taoyuan Dermatology (headed by Dr. Zhang Xuelun), and support for the Keelung and Tucheng campuses (headed by Dr. Xu Zhongyao and Dr. Yang Jingyi, respectively). This will provide broader and more specialized medical services, care for more severe dermatological patients, and enhance the teaching quality and research mission of the medical center, aiming to become a top-tier international dermatology team.
