Department Introduction

The Division of Thoracic Surgery is part of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Chang Gung memorial hospital in LinKou of the northern Taiwan and set up in 1976 by Dr Chang. We offer a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service to patients with diseases of the lungs, airway, esophagus, mediastinum, chest wall, and diaphragm.
We have a particularly high level of experience with minimally invasive techniques and performed first VATS surgery of Taiwan in 1991 by Dr. Liu HP. Under current chief of Dr. Chao YK and Dr. Chen WH leads and such as VATS (thoracoscopic) lobectomy for lung cancer VTAS esophagectomy for esophageal cancer ,VTAS thymectomy, and VATS mediastinal mass excision, VTAS bullectomy for pneumothorax and VTAS decrotication for thoracic empyema were daily practices at our division.
Dr. Chao YK specializes in Robotic Surgery, while Dr. Chen WH focuses on lung transplantation. Both are leading experts in Taiwan in their respective fields.
Now, thoracic surgeons in our division carry out advanced and pioneer procedures and emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and multiple treatment modalities. We comprise a record of more than 10,000 thoracic procedures for excellence in the surgical treatment of thoracic benign and oncology diseases.
