Department Introduction
1. The Department of Surgery was established in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital on December 1st, 1976. The first Chief of this department was Dr. Chang Chau Hsiungh.
2. The second Chief was Dr. Lin Ming Fu, promoted from the Chief of General Clinic in 1979.
3. The Linkou hospital branch was opened in 1980 and was established as the first line of transfer for patients in the southern and central areas of Taiwan.
4. The Keelung hospital branch was opened in 1984 and established services of the Department of Surgery that were to be extended to the northern coast of Taiwan.
5. The Kaohsiung hospital branch was opened in 1986 and reached out to the new lands in southern Taiwan.
6. The third Chief of the Department of Surgery was Chen Yu Jui (the Chief of Plastic Surgery). In order to respond to the trend of computerized health records, the Department of Surgery used the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for inpatient medical orders, making this Department the pioneer in the application of the EHR system at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
7. When Dr. Huang Tsan Lung became the fourth Department of Surgery Chief, the Linkou hospital branch had been recruiting over forty resident doctors every year. The number of female surgeons had also begun to gradually increase at this time.
8. The fifth Chief was Chang Chi Neng, previously serving as the Chief of the Department of Neurosurgery. During his leadership, the Department of Surgery grew steadily.
9. The Chiayi hospital branch officially opened in 1980. The Vice- Superintendent Wang Cheng Yi (also the Chief of Colorectal Surgery) became the Superintendent of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Chiayi branch.
10. The Chief of Urology, Chang Hui Lang, was promoted to be the sixth Chief, with Dr. Chan Yi Ying promoted to be the Vice Chief.
11. The Chief of General Surgery, Chan Yi Ying , was promoted to be the seventh Chief, with Dr. Lo Lun-Jou promoted to be the Vice Chief.
12. The Chief of Craniofacial Plastic Surgery , Lo Lun-Jou , was promoted to be the eighteen Chief, with Dr. Wei,Kuo-Chen and Dr. Tsui,Ko-Hung promoted to be the Vice Chief.
13.The Chief of General Surgery, Yeh Ta-Sen, was promoted to be the Ninth Chief, with Dr. Lee Wei Chen and Dr. Yeh Chi-Hsiao promoted to be the Vice Chief.
14.The Chief of General Surgery, Lee Wei Chen, was promoted to be the Tenth Chief, with Dr. Yeh Chi-Hsiao and Dr. Chuang Chi-Cheng ane Lin Yu-Te promoted to be the Vice Chief.
15.The Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Lin Yu-Te, was promoted to be the Eleventh Chief, with Dr. Yeh Chi-Hsiao and Dr. Chuang Chi-Cheng promoted to be the Vice Chief.
16.The Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Lin Yu-Te, was promoted to be the Eleventh Chief, with Dr. Chao Yin-Kai and Dr. Chuang Chi-Cheng promoted to be the Vice Chief.
Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is a 40-year old establishment and has reached a plethora of milestones in its continuing ambition to prosper and serve its communities.
