Department Introduction
For more than 40 years, the Division of Cardiology of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) has provided the most advanced, patient-centered care and treatments for the patients from all over the world. In addition, we also have international academic exchange and are responsible for training residents as well as domestic and international cardiology fellows. Our team consists of 53 staff physicians specialize in cardiovascular interventions, electrophysiology and radiofrequency catheter ablation, cardiovascular implantable electronic devices, cardiovascular images, and basic research.
The electrophysiology and radiofrequency catheter ablation was first introduced by Professor Delon Wu in 1978. The first permanent pacemaker was implanted in 1993. Currently we not only perform conventional radiofrequency ablations, but also have 3-dimentional electroanatomical mapping system and stereotaxis to facilitate all kinds of complex radiofrequency catheter ablations, including atrial tachycardias, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardias. In addition to permanent pacemakers, we are experienced in implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization therapy.
Interventional cardiologists have highly specialized techniques and are experienced in performing all kinds of complex cardiovascular interventions, including percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and stenting, percutaneous transvenous mitral valvuloplasty (PTMV), percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of peripheral arteries or arteriovenous fistula, renal/carotid artery angioplasty and stenting, deployment of atrial septal defect (ASD) closure devices.
In non-invasive diagnostic modalities, our physicians are experienced in vascular Doppler, 2-D/3-D/transesophageal echocardiography, tissue Doppler, and speckle tracking echocardiography.
To facilitate cardiac intervention procedures and preventive medicine, CGMH has 3T MRI and the world’s leading 320-slice computed tomography (CT) system.
All Our staff physicians work together to solve the diseases of the cardiovascular system. We also cooperate to provide expert care with divisions of cardiovascular surgery, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, nephrology, nuclear medicine, and rehabilitation. CGMH serves about 12,000 outpatients and 4,500 inpatients each month. Using the patient-centered care modality, every patient will receive total care as well as possible from different aspects of experts, laboratories, and clinics.
