Department Introduction
With an aging population, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and endocrine changes caused by aging, have become modern health threats. By integrating various specialist, nurse practitioners, educators, dietitian, clinical pharmacists, special inspection technicians form a complete clinical care team. Meanwhile the research team aim to investigate the characteristics of Taiwanese specific diseases, mechanisms and prevention of complications, providing the patients services in the level of medical center.
The department has been established by professor Miao-Ju Huang since 1975 and developed continuously jointed by different new memberes. In 1988, Director Hung-Shou Huang was in charge of the department and established the prototype of diabetic center. Through the leading of Director Jen-Der Lin, Jyuhn-Huarng Juang and Yu-Yao Huang, the current Director Szu-Tah Chen hope to open up a new situation in the 21st century and give people better service.
There are now 23 allied endocrinology and metabolism physicians, 3 researchers, 11 full-time educators, 7 nutritionists, 2 nurse practitioners, 1 full-time clinical pharmacist, and another several part-time staffs, including residents and nurses. In addition, there are nephrology, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, rehabilitation, psychiatry and other specialists to participate in the treatment and education of diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
