RESEARCH INTERESTS
Metabolic diseases including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity are increasingly cause severe economic and health burdens. Adipose tissue is critical for health energy homeostasis, and also has neuroendocrine and immune functions. In pathological conditions, the adipose tissues undergo compositional and functional remodeling, causing alternations in cytokine expressions, adipose tissue resident immune cell populations, and extracellular matrix composition. These changes profoundly induce consequences for systemic inflammation and insulin resistance, which is considered the leading cause of diabetes. Environmental factors, including diet and pollutants, are believed critical for the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases. My research goal is to explore the pathophysiology of adipose tissue dysfunction upon environmental factors exposure. The approaches include molecular biology, cell culture, transgenic mice, disease model, and -omics. Using these platforms, we have explored a novel role of Endo180 on regulating diet-induced obesity, EMT and microenvironment regulation of gastric cancer.
